If you are a Landlord renting out property in London, there is a good chance that you are legally required to obtain a license from the local council.
There are three main types of licensing scheme in operation (mandatory, additional and selective) and the rules governing each scheme differs from borough to borough.​

License application service
Our simple application service consists of three stages:

We will ask you to provide some information about your properties via a short web-based form, declare that there are no impediments and make payment.

We will make an appointment to visit the properties in order to obtain additional information and prepare a floor plan.
(If your properties are occupied, we will be pleased to make arrangements directly with the tenant)

Once we have obtained all of the necessary information and supporting documents, we will apply for the property license.
If the local authority requires further information before granting the license, we will act as the first point of contact.
Service cost
*We are pleased to offer this license application service free-of-charge to all new clients who sign up to our Property Management service for a minimum twelve month period. A significant discount will also be offered to all of our existing Management clients.
If you do not require Property Management services and would like to instruct our services for the application of property licenses only, our costs are:

Application for a license under a selective licensing scheme, £375.00

Application for a license under an additional or mandatory scheme, £450.00

Our application service includes one visit to the property for the purposes of obtaining information and preparing a floor plan, however, in the rare event that we are required to make additional visits to the property, for example in order to give access to a council inspection officer, an additional charge of £60.00 per visit would apply.

This service offering is subject to full terms and conditions. We reserve the right to withdraw this service offering where we reasonably believe that there are impediments to your property being granted a license. David English ltd bears no responsibility for any decision made by the local authority, including the number of occupiers for which the property is licensed and any property-specific conditions which are attached to the license. It is the responsibility of the license holder to ensure that all license conditions are met during the term of the license.
